Message from the Chair of the Local Organizing Committee

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

On behalf of the Local Organizing Committee, it is my absolute privilege to welcome you to the 20^th International Forum for Back and Neck Pain (IBNP) Research, hosted at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University from May 10 to 13, 2027.

Since its inception in 1995, the International Forum for Back and Neck Pain (IBNP) Research in Primary Care has proudly maintained its independence from industry sponsorship, uniting a global, multidisciplinary community to advance spinal pain research in primary care. Marking a historic milestone, the 20^th Forum in Hong Kong represents the very first time this prestigious event will be hosted in Asia.

Asia is home to nearly 60% of the global population, yet musculoskeletal and spine research in the region is still in its developing stages. By bringing the forum to Hong Kong, we aim to build a vital bridge between East and West—connecting Asian researchers with their Western counterparts to foster collaborative, cross-border research that addresses global health challenges.

Our Hong Kong forum is dedicated to cultivating a warm, inclusive, and hierarchy-free environment. We place a profound emphasis on nurturing the next generation of scientists, providing early-career researchers with a friendly, supportive platform to gain mentorship from and collaborate directly with world-renowned experts.

Alongside our core focus on primary care, this year's program will spotlight the future of spine care. We will explore how cutting-edge technologies and artificial intelligence (AI) can be ethically and practically integrated into back and neck pain research to improve patient outcomes.

True to the unique IBNP spirit, this is far from a conventional conference of passive, back-to-back indoor presentations. Instead, we offer a dynamic, interactive program designed to spark vibrant discussion, inspire new partnerships, and build lasting global friendships.
